It's a gentle, plant-based cleanser derived from coconut oil.
SCI is derived from coconut oil (cocoyl = coconut fatty acids) + isethionic acid (a sulfonic acid derivative). The fatty acid portion comes from a renewable, plant-based source (coconut or sometimes palm). The other part (isethionic acid) is synthetically processed, but still considered mild, biodegradable, and plant-derived overall.
